In 1998 Paul was commissioned to undertake and implement design projects for this 11 acre garden which had already seen substantial landscaping, dividing the site into various sized sections. The owner had specific style requirements on how each section should be developed and Paul’s brief was to undertake and project manage design concepts for specific sections of the garden, based on these requirements and in close co-operation with the owner at all stages.
Design concepts, planting plans and construction details were completed and the various projects implemented over an eighteen month period. These were to include:
- A Mediterranean garden
- Magnolia walkway & prairie style borders
- A hosta walkway & tree fern jungle
- Chinese hill garden & bamboo collection
- Secret garden
- Various themed borders
The construction and planting was undertaken by a team of full-time gardeners and local stonemasons, with plants being sourced from both island and mainland nurseries and specimens imported from Italy. A full irrigation system was installed and adapted to deal with particular plant requirements. After the construction phase, Paul continued his involvement with the gardens for a number of years, liasing with the owners and estate staff in both the maintenance and on-going development of the garden.
