Based in North Yorkshire Paul offers a garden design, consultancy and planting service throughout Yorkshire, nationwide and abroad.

Paul studied Geography & Art whilst training to be a teacher and after 18 years in the education service returned to college to pursue professionally his long term passion - gardening. Since completing his Diploma at Writtle College and further courses at The College of Garden Design, Paul has specialized in the design and implementation of a wide variety of gardens, mainly for private clients. His portfolio covers a wide spectrum of garden styles with commissions ranging from small town gardens to large country estates both in the UK and abroad.

Two of his commissions have been selected for exhibition at The Chelsea Flower Show Garden Design Pavilion and a Potager Garden designed for clients in Cambridgeshire has been open as part of the Yellow Book National Garden Scheme.

"Garden Design is about coordinating form and function, about linking the past, present and the future. Gardens have to reflect something of their owners' needs and personal styles whilst complementing and having a relationship with the surrounding environment." (PAW)

The use of plants within the garden space is the driving force in Paul’s designs, these being used to create, atmosphere, structure and interest to work alongside a simple ground plan. Influenced strongly by the naturalistic planting philosophy of Piet Oldolf, and designers James Van Sweden, Wolfgan Oehme, and Dan Pearson he aims to link his designs closely to the environment and the space in which the garden is located.

Paul has been a keen gardener from the age of ten and operating a full time garden design practice since 1992. He is an experienced designer and knowledgeable plants person, preferring to work hands on in the implementation of the design and continuing this involvement to ensure design concepts are developed as the garden evolves. He recognizes the need for combining sound design principles with an original and imaginative approach, good planting, solid horticultural practice, common sense and cost efficiency.

Every photograph on this website is taken from gardens designed and planted by Paul, representing a selection of projects undertaken throughtout Yorkshire and further afield.
